The fire that hit five houses on Jalan Pangeran Tubagus Angke, Tambora, West Jakarta, which resulted in the death of an ODGJ with the initials AS (41), allegedly from an iron-las fire.

One of the victims of the fire, Anwar (48) said that the fire that scorched his house and the other four houses came from iron welding sparks at the location.

"The fire went down to one of the houses because someone else was welding, cutting iron. Go down here (the plate)," Anwar told reporters while pointing at the building where the welding was carried out, Friday, October 10.

The melting or welding fell into one of the houses and hit flammable material.

"Maybe it hit the asbestos, the asbestos broke out, the fire went inside, then spread to my house and other houses. It happened at around 09.30 WIB," he said.

Anwar said that local residents had helped extinguish the fire using water and light fire extinguishers (APAR), but the fire was getting bigger and spread faster.

"The fire was carried away by the wind quickly, we and the residents did not stop using fire extinguishers, it was unstoppable. Some were hit by sparks as well," he said.

As a result of the fire, all of his securities and electronic goods and other victims were burned down.

"Surat-surat, barang-barang elektronik, segala macam macam ludes terbakar. Jadi yang menjadi korban kebakaran 11 orang, termasuk keluarga saya," tutur Anwar.

Previously, one Person With Mental Disorder (ODGJ) with the initials AS (41) died in a house fire on Jalan Pengeran Tubagus Angke, Angke Village, Tambora District, West Jakarta, Friday.

"So the victim (the man) was not saved. He was locked in the room, trapped and unable to get out. When found he was dead," said Head of the Operations Section of the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue (Gulkarmat) Sub-dept., Syarifudin at the location, Friday.

Syarif said there were five houses that were burned down in the incident.

"So there are five houses, then there are 11 residents. One person died and there were a few abrasions," said Syarif.

Until now, the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation by police officers. "Still under investigation," he said.

The West Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-dept. deployed 21 fire engines with 105 personnel to deal with the fire.
