Alcohol Party In Gubuk Sawah, 2 Youths In Magelang Toxics Died

JAKARTA - At least two youths in Magelang Regency, Central Java, died after holding an alcoholic drink party on Sunday, October 5.

Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Magelang Police, Kompol La Ode Arwansyah, said that both of them were known to have died after two days of an alcoholic drink party allegedly experiencing symptoms of poisoning.

The tragic incident occurred in a hut located in a rice field area in one of the hamlets in Gedongan Kidul, Bondowoso Village, Mertoyudan District.

Based on the information gathered, the alcohol party was held by a number of local youths. However, two of them were reportedly sick after the party ended. The two victims who died were identified as Ari Setiawan (26) and Juli Purnawan (47).

"Two people died, one was taken by his family to the hospital and the other was found at his house dead," he said in Magelang, Tuesday, as reported by Antara.

The police who received the report immediately went to the scene and the victim's house to conduct further investigations.

It is suspected that the two victims died as a result of drinking mixed alcoholic beverages containing hazardous materials.

"On that Sunday there were several people from witnesses who had time to drink. We don't know yet after they drank together until someone died today. We are still investigating," he said.

One of the victims who had been taken to the hospital had been buried by his family. The family refused an autopsy, but the police have taken samples of a liquid suspected of being liquor to be sent to the Central Java Police Forensic Laboratory to find out the composition or content of the alcoholic drink.

"The family refused to do an autopsy. However, we have taken samples that are suspected of drinking and will take them to a forensic laboratory," he said.

Until now, the police have examined five witnesses, including the victim's family in the incident.
