Victims Of Collapse Of Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School Building, Basarnas: 67 Died, 104 Selamat

JAKARTA - The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) stated that the total number of victims of the collapse of the Al Khoziny Sidoarjo Islamic Boarding School (Ponpes) building, East Java reached 171 people.

Head of Basarnas Marshal TNI Mohammad Syafii said, out of a total of 171 victims 104 people were declared safe, while 67 others were reported to have died.

"The joint rescue team managed to evacuate 171 victims, with 104 survivors, while 67 victims were declared dead with eight of them incomplete parts of the victim's body," he said.

Syafii said that with the discovery of all victims from the location of the ruins, the entire series of search and rescue missions were declared complete.

All victims who died have now been handed over to the East Java Regional Police Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team for the identification process of the victims.

He ensured that the process of identifying victims and also all other processes including the investigation of the cause of the disaster would continue and not be the authority of Basarnas.

Syafii hopes that Al Khoziny Sidoarjo Islamic Boarding School can recover from the disaster soon so that the teaching and learning process can return to normal as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, for the rehabilitation process of Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School, the local provincial government will provide strict supervision in the implementation process to ensure that activities at the boarding school run safely and avoid similar disasters.

The head of the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School Alumni as a representative of Al Khoziny Sidoarjo Islamic Boarding School KH Zainal Abidin stated that future teaching and learning activities will be a special concern for caregivers and boarding school administrators.

"It is certain that the caregivers and boarding school administrators will discuss the mechanism for the next teaching and learning program at this boarding school," said Zainal.

He admitted that he could not provide more information regarding the disaster investigation process. He asked all parties to wait for official results from the authorities regarding the cause of the disaster.
