Swedish-Zelenskyy PM Discusses Ukraine's Interest In Buying JAS Gripen Saab Fighter Jets

JAKARTA - Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed Kyiv's interest in Saab fighter jets, JAS Gripen at a meeting of European leaders in Copenhagen.

"We discuss ongoing cooperation in Ukraine's future defense development, including air defenses, and Ukraine's interest in Gripen warplanes," Kristersson wrote on platform X.

He told Reuters the jets would not be donated. Ukraine is considering whether its future air defenses and combat capabilities will consist of Gripens or other systems.

"They clearly need to build stronger air defenses in the long term. Even postwar defense," he said.

"The funding part is fundamental, which there is no solution for now," he continued.
