JAKARTA - The government decided to extend the Implementation of Restrictions on Community Activities (PPKM) Micro for the eighth period from May 18-31, 2021.

"Phase 8, May 18-31. The coverage is still 30 provinces, not in 34 provinces because we will use parameters to establish", said Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Susiwijono Moegiarso reported by Antara, Monday, May 17.

Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Susi, explained that four provinces that are free from the application of PPKM Micro, namely Maluku, West Sulawesi, North Maluku, and Gorontalo still observed to have indicators below the threshold criteria for the application of Micro PPKM.

"The indicator is still very low from the 4 (regions), so we set only 30 (provinces) coverage", explained Susi.

Susi said the rules of opening tourist attractions during the Eid al-Fitr 1442 Hijri holiday are already listed in the rules of PPKM Mikro. Areas with red and orange zones of COVID-19 are prohibited from opening tourist attractions while areas with yellow and green zones are allowed to open tourist facilities by applying health protocols appropriately.

"Further arrangements we submit to the regional task force and friends of the respective local governments because they are supposed to be more years now red or orange zone areas or tourist sites which are at high risk", said Susi.

Based on data from the COVID-19 Task Force there was a 38.42 percent surge in mobility at tourist sites during the Eid al-Fitr 2021 holiday (May 12-15) compared to May 5 to 8. Meanwhile, when compared to the weekend of May 7 and 8 with May 14 and 15 during the momentum of Eid al-Fitr, there was a 100.8 percent surge in tourist mobility.

"Seeing that community mobility activities in tourist sites are quite high, the government yesterday reiterated the rules in PPKM, we submitted them back to the local government", said Susi.
