YOGYAKARTA - Intellectual intelligence or Quotient Intelligent intelligence (IQ) is often used as a benchmark related to a person's cognitive abilities. Although IQ is not the only determinant of intelligence, IQ's average data is often used as a comparison of the level of intelligence of a country.

This year, the World Population Review has again released a new report regarding the average IQ in various countries. According to the report, Indonesia recorded an average IQ of 93.2. This position attracted public attention because in the Southeast Asia region itself, Indonesia was actually at the lowest ranks.

Of the 126 countries included in the survey, Indonesia is in the 98th position, which means it is quite low compared to many other countries. Neighboring countries such as Malaysia have an average IQ of 100.5, while Singapore is much higher at 105.

When compared to East Asian countries, the distance is getting wider. China, South Korea, and Japan recorded the highest average IQ scores in the world. Meanwhile, European countries such as Belgium (100), Germany (99.6), and the UK (99.7) are also superior to Indonesia.

However, Indonesia is still higher than several countries in Africa. For example, Nigeria has a score of only 91.3 and Senegal. This shows that although it is low in the ASEAN region, Indonesia's position is still relatively better than some other countries.

There are several important factors that influence why the average IQ of Indonesians is relatively low. The first is education, where access to quality schools is still not evenly distributed throughout the region. Children in urban areas tend to get better education than in rural areas.

The second factor is nutrition, which plays a major role in the development of the child's brain. Lack of nutrients such as protein, omega-3 fatty acids, and important vitamins can inhibit cognitive development. Nutrient foods such as fish, vegetables, and fruit are urgently needed to increase intelligence.

Next is the environment, because children who grow up in the environment support learning and creativity tend to be smarter. Social interactions, access to technology, and reading habits greatly affect intellectual development from an early age.
