Deputy Governor Of DKI Reminds Demonstration Actions Not To Destroy City Facilities

JAKARTA - Damage to public facilities due to demonstrations has occurred quite a lot lately. Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno reminded youth organizations to maintain public facilities during demonstrations in Jakarta.

"Can you demonstrate, you may propose opinions, but don't let us destroy what we have built. Therefore, I invite Jakarta children, let's take care of Jakarta," said Rano while attending the Regional Plenary Leadership Meeting (Rapimpurda) of Youth Organizations in the Central Jakarta area, quoted from ANTARA, Saturday, September 27.

He also invited youth organizations in Jakarta to work hand in hand with the government to protect public facilities from acts of vandalism by foreign elements.

This was in response to the destruction of public facilities during a demonstration that took place at the end of August 2025.

According to Rano, the burning of a number of facilities such as toll gates has an impact on traffic jams that have occurred in recent days.

He assessed that the toll gate that was damaged had to be repaired for a long time, so four-wheeled vehicles had to pass through the regular lane which then caused traffic jams.

"There are many consequences that we have felt ourselves with yesterday's destruction of public facilities in Jakarta. Yesterday, it was said that there was a traffic jam, because to fix the toll gate alone, it took maybe more than two months. But repairs must be made," said Rano.

He added that public facilities are built with people's taxes, so they must be guarded together.
