SUMEDANG - The Sumedang Regency Government (Pemkab) has confirmed that 70 students from Widya Nusantara Vocational School (WIN) in Ujungjaya District who are suspected of experiencing food poisoning after consuming food from the Free Nutritional Meal Program (MBG) have received optimal medical treatment.
"All students have been treated. Medical equipment at the Ujungjaya Community Health Center is adequate, although we have added additional beds and are preparing referral scenarios if needed," said Sumedang Deputy Regent M. Fajar Aldila in Sumedang, Antara News Agency reported on Friday, September 26.
Fajar explained that emergency treatment included administering IV drips, adding field beds, and coordinating with Sumedang Regional General Hospital and hospitals in Majalengka as a precautionary measure.
All affected students are reportedly recovering after receiving intensive care since experiencing food poisoning on Thursday, September 25.
The Sumedang Regency Government will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the MBG food process, from the cleanliness of the kitchen to distribution.
According to Fajar, one of the suspected risk factors for food poisoning is food that has been stored for too long before being delivered to schools.
"The MBG program is very good for children, but we must ensure that the quality and hygiene of the food are not compromised. This is what we will review and take mitigation measures to prevent similar incidents from recurring," he said.
Furthermore, the district government will also evaluate the possibility of students with a history of allergies to certain food ingredients, including seafood used in dim sum dishes.
"We will tighten standards, including the maximum number of students per food provider. Most importantly, the quality and hygiene of the food must be strictly maintained," he said.
He ensured that field monitoring would continue while strengthening regulations to ensure the MBG program runs safely, healthily, and sustainably.
