Arrested Playing Gambling, 2 Students In Aceh Sentenced To Cambuk

BANDA ACEH - The public prosecutor of the Pidie Jaya District Attorney's Office (Kejari), Aceh Province, executed the caning of two convicts of extortion or gambling whose cases have permanent legal force or inkrah.

The caning was carried out in public in public at the Agung Tgk Chik Pante Geulima Mosque, Meureudu, the capital of Pidie Jaya Regency, Thursday, September 25.

The two convicts, namely Sabrul Kamal and Fahkrul Badminton (19), both residents of Gampong Meunasah Balek, Meureudu District, Pidie Jaya Regency, are students.

Both were found guilty by the panel of judges at the Meureudu Sharia Court violated Article 18 of Aceh Qanun Number 6 of 2014 concerning the law of jinayah with a sentence of 10 lashes. Article 18 regulates the title of judging.

Head of the General Crime Section of the Pidie Jaya Kejari, Suheri Wira Firnanda, said that the implementation of the caning law after the case had permanent legal force based on the decision of the Meureudu Sharia Court.

"The two convicts were sentenced to 10 lashes cut to a detention period. Both of them served a caning sentence just six times after being cut to a detention period of 118 days or four months," Suheri said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, September 26.

Suheri Wira Firnanda said the reduced sentence was in accordance with the provisions of Article 23 Paragraph (3) of Aceh Qanun Number 7 of 2013 concerning the law of the jinayat event, where every 30 days the detention period is calculated equivalent to one lashes.

According to Suheri, the implementation of the whips in addition to carrying out court orders is also part of the commitment to enforce Islamic law in Pidie Jaya Regency.

"We hope that this punishment will serve as a lesson for the convict and also a deterrent effect for the community so that they no longer perform major or gambling policies or other violations of Islamic law," said Suheri Wira Firnanda.
