Pilgrims Attacked Despite Ban, Guarding 14 TPU In Jakarta Tightened Involving TNI-Polri

JAKARTA - A number of Public Cemeteries (TPU) in Jakarta tightened its guard to involve elements of the TNI-Polri. This was done after a number of TPU visited by pilgrims despite the closing rules on May 12-16.

Tightening and addition of officers was carried out at 14 major TPU in Jakarta, namely, TPU Menteng Pulo, TPU Milling, TPU Tegal Alur, TPU Pondok Ranggon and TPU Karet Bivak.

"There are 82 TPU managed by the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta, 14 TPU we thicken its security because of the category of large TPU and usually crowded pilgrims every Eid al-Fitr from year to year. Security was tightened by the police and Satpol PP. We hope that tpu condition without pilgrims can be maintained until May 16, 2021," said Head of Data and Information Center of The Parks and Forests Office of DKI Jakarta Ivan Murcahyo in his statement, Saturday, May 15.

The Parks and Forests Office of DKI Jakarta has also communicated and coordinated with the regional authorities so that the elimination of ziara can be effective without any misunderstandings. Because, this closure is only for pilgrimage activities.

"The closure is only for pilgrimage activities only for pilgrimage activities while the funeral process is still running as usual," he explained.

Ivan also appreciated the public's support for not making this temporary pilgrimage to avoid crowds.

"Almost the whole community can understand the ban on grave pilgrimage starting May 13. The situation at Layur Mill cemetery and Tegal Alur Cemetery on the second day of Eid al-Fitr saw no pilgrims," ivan said.

Tightening of security in TPU involving elements of TNI-Polri and Satpol PP will be carried out also after May 16, 2021. This tightening to ensure there is no crowd due to grave pilgrimage after it is allowed.

"Security still needs to be tightened by involving elements of the TNI / Police and Satpol PP. We hope that citizens can understand this policy is put in place for the broader common good," he said.
