JAKARTA - Israeli President Isaac Herzog called the recognition of the Palestinian State a sad thing, raising the power of darkness and resolving nothing.

Britain, Canada, Australia, and Portugal announced the recognition of the Palestinian State on Sunday, referring to the alarming conditions in the Gaza Strip, proposing a two-state peace solution.

President Herzog criticized Britain, Australia, and Canada's recognition of the Palestinian State.

"After the atrocities of October 7, Hamas continued its terror campaign, and meanwhile it continues to cruelly hold 48 people hostage in Gaza's tunnels and basements, the recognition of the Palestinian state by several countries today, not surprisingly, was warmly welcomed by Hamas," President Herzog tweeted on X. , reported The Times of Israel September 22.

"That won't help a single Palestinian," Herzog continued.

The latest conflict in the Gaza Strip, Palestine, follows an attack by a Palestinian militant group led by Hamas on southern Israel that claimed killed 1,200 people and another 251 were held hostage on October 7, 2023, according to Israeli calculations.

That was in response to airstrikes, blockades, and land operations carried out by Israel in the Gaza Strip. "It (the recognition of the Palestinian State) will not help free a single hostage, and it will not help us achieve any settlement between Israel and Palestine. It will only generate the power of darkness." he said.
