Ahead Of The Congress, PPP Heats Up: Rommy Asks Mardiono Not To Advance Candidates For Chairman

Chairman of the United Development Party (PPP) Advisory Council Romahurmuziy or Rommy assessed that Muhamad Mardiono's leadership in the party bearing the Kaaba symbol needed to be evaluated.

"From the start I said, there must be an evaluation of Mardiono," said Rommy in a media discussion forum, quoted Monday, September 22.

He reasoned that Mardiono served as Acting Chairperson of PPP when the party failed to penetrate parliament in the 2024 election. According to Rommy, since 1999 no political party has been expelled from Senayan to be able to return to the DPR RI.

"Because from 1999 to today, no political party has left Senayan to be able to return again," he said.

Rommy also considered Mardiono unfit to lead PPP and suggested not running as a candidate for chairman (caketum) at the X Congress. PPP is scheduled to hold the X Congress at the end of September 2025 to determine the definitive chairman.

In my opinion, Mr. Mardiono stopped respectfully at the congress. That's the best," said Rommy.

Meanwhile, PPP Sharia Council Secretary Fadholan Musyaffa also voiced the same thing. He said party scholars asked Mardiono not to run again.

According to Fadholan, Mardiono often ignores input from ulama and kiai, so that the party fails to stay in parliament. "The suggestions from the party's DPP Council that have been submitted in writing to the Acting General Chair, four times, are ignored," he said.

Fadholan hopes that all elements of PPP will open up to the nation's best figures, both internally and externally, to lead the party in the future.

"PPP is open to the nation's best figures, both from within and outside PPP cadres, who have the intention to join and devote themselves and are ready to fight seriously with PPP," said Fadholan.
