A Gang Of Pickpockets At The Transjakarta Bus Stop Rasuna Said Was Arrested By The Police

JAKARTA - The police have uncovered a cell phone pickpocketing case at the Transjakarta Rasuna Said Bus Stop, South Jakarta. The mode used by the perpetrators was passing the victim's cellphone which had been stolen to a friend around him.

The perpetrators, in this case, are not alone. They conspired, more than one person to make the mode run smoothly.

"On the day of the incident, Thursday (18 September) at around 11.00 WIB, officers and residents managed to arrest one of the perpetrators with the initials NCI at the Karet Sudirman Bus Stop," said Setiabudi Metro Police Chief, AKBP Ardiansyah, Friday, September 19.

The theft took place on Tuesday, September 16, at around 08.00 WIB at the Transjakarta Rasuna Said bus stop. At that time, the perpetrator opened the victim's bag with the initials DSS from behind and took two cell phones.

According to the police, the modus operandi of the perpetrators is unique and planned because they work as a team by dividing their respective duties.

One of the perpetrators was tasked with stealing items from the victim's bag. Then hand over the stolen goods in turn to other group members to eliminate traces.

"The stolen goods were then collected and sold by the perpetrators who acted as collectors," he said.

After realizing that the goods were stolen, the victim immediately made a police report with the number LP/B/218/IX/2025/Sek Budi/Res South Jakarta/PMJ dated September 16, 2025.

On Thursday, September 18, the police managed to arrest the NCI perpetrator with a cell phone identified as stolen.

NCI finally revealed the involvement of three of its colleagues with the initials DP, D and H.

Then, on the same day, the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit AKP Sudarto managed to arrest the DP on the sidewalk of Jalan Jenderal Sudirman.

Then, two other perpetrators, D and H, are still being chased and have been put on the wanted list.

For their actions, the perpetrators are threatened with Article 363 of the Criminal Code regarding the crime of theft with a maximum penalty of seven years in prison.

Based on the investigation, this gang is known to have carried out similar actions five times in various locations.

The police also appreciated the cooperation of the community who helped in the arrest of the perpetrators.

It is also appealed to the public to increase vigilance, especially in public places such as bus stops and stations.

In addition, the public is reminded to immediately report criminal incidents to the 110 credit-free service center (call center).
