COVID-19: Trend Of Simple Marriage In Egypt

JAKARTA - No country in the world can predict when the COVID-19 pandemic will end. Moreover, the number of victims who have contracted or died from the virus from Wuhan has been increasing every day. Meanwhile, the lockdown option that was considered successful was in fact only limited to curbing the spread, not ending the pandemic.

On that basis, many couples who dream of having a luxurious and beautiful wedding, slowly have to lock up their dreams and change their wedding plans. From those who wanted to invite many people, now it only involves the closest family in simple events.

This trend is taking place in Egypt. According to Reuters, one of the couples who changed plans was Mustafa Amin and Noha Hamid. Initially, they planned to rent a large building to invite large crowds. Unfortunately, this plan could not be carried out due to the implementation of the physical distancing policy.

After several days of thinking, they agreed to a simple marriage. Both of them also limited invited guests by only presenting their closest relatives at the residence of Hamid's extended family in Qalyud, North Cairo on April 16.

"There is an important reason why we keep our wedding at home. Even so, regarding the celebration we will postpone it because we do not know when this crisis will end," said Amin.

"Marriage is quick and easy, we arrange it during the day and limit it only to our family," added Amin.

They realize that there is little good behind the COVID-19 pandemic. This is because the couple can save on the wedding costs that they originally wanted to pay for the rental of the reception building, catering and so on. Now, these costs are being diverted to struggle with economic uncertainty during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, so far, the Egyptian government has confirmed 3,659 cases of transmission of COVID-19, of which 276 have died. In fact, the owners of policies to this day are faced with a dilemma. One side wants to reduce social activities, the other side wants to keep the economy going.
