Regarding Police Reform, National Police Chief Claims The Police Have Made Improvements

JAKARTA - National Police Chief General Pol. Listyo Sigit Prabowo spoke about the discourse on reform within the National Police. Regarding the reform of the National Police, the National Police Chief emphasized that his institution had made various transformation efforts. Like always being open to evaluation and input from outside. He revealed this at the Jakarta Presidential Palace, when asked by reporters after the Inauguration of the Minister of the Red and White Cabinet Volume III, Wednesday, September 17.

Regarding coordination with other parties, he stated that the National Police would follow up on every policy made. When asked about the security of the demonstration conducted by the National Police last August, the National Police Chief explained that the Police already had a permanent procedure (protap) regulated in Law Number 9 of 1998 concerning Freedom of Expressing Opinions in Public. However, Lisyo emphasized that demonstrations and riots were two different things.

If there is a riot, the National Police will have the authority to take action according to the law because of acts of anarchy in riots such as arson, looting and persecution, including criminal acts. Even so, Listyo said that the Police really needed input from the community. In closing, the National Police Chief emphasized the importance of cooperation with the TNI in maintaining security stability.

It is known that President Prabowo Subianto will form a Police Reform Team. On September 17, Prabowo inaugurated Ahmad Dofiri as Special Advisor to the President for Kamtibnas and Police Reform.
