Djamari Chaniago Becomes Coordinating Minister For Political, Legal And Security Affairs, Yusril: Has High Integrity

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Correction Yusril Ihza Mahendra responded to the appointment of Lt. Gen. TNI (Ret.) Djamari Chaniago as Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam) by President Prabowo Subianto today.

Arriving at the Palace shortly before the inauguration was held, Yusril talked about the figure of Djamari whom he knew. According to him, Djamari is a retired TNI who has integrity.

"If he becomes good. He is a person who has quite high integrity, in the past the West Java Military Commander, Pangdam Siliwangi, before becoming the Kostrad Commander," Yusril told reporters, Wednesday, September 17.

However, before the inauguration was held, Yusril admitted that he did not know whether Djamari was confirmed to fill the position of Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, which for the last few days was held by Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs ad interim.

"I think if it is done, it will really be the person who has been chosen by the President," said Yusril.

President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to inaugurate a number of new officials from the third volume of the reshuffle of the Red and White Cabinet, including the definitive Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam), at the State Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday afternoon.

Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian when met at the Presidential Palace of the Republic of Indonesia confirmed the information regarding the inauguration.

"I heard that there was (an inauguration) of the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs. As the Minister of Home Affairs, I am under coordination," Tito said in response to reporters' questions without mentioning the name of the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs of President Prabowo's choice.

Information circulating among Palace journalists said President Prabowo was scheduled to inaugurate a new official at around 14.00 WIB.

Lt. Gen. TNI (Ret.) Djamari Chaniago is rumored to be appointed as the definitive Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs after the position is temporarily filled by the Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin. Djamari is also said to be inaugurated along with a number of other officials who are the result of the reshuffle of the third volume of the Red and White Cabinet.

Djamari Chaniago is the retired TNI with the last position of the Chief of General Staff of the TNI on March 8, 2000 March 16, 2004. He served as Deputy Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army in 1999'2000, Commander of the 24th Army Strategic Reserve Command (Pangkostrad) in 1998 '1999, and Commander of Kodam III/Siliwangi in 1997'1998. Djamari graduated from Akabri 1971, senior President Prabowo who graduated from Akabri 1974

After serving as a TNI soldier, Djamari served as President Commissioner of PT Semen Padang. Currently, he is listed as a member of the Dewan of Titles, Services, and Honorary Signs for the 2025-2030 period.

Apart from Djamari, other officials who are rumored to be appointed include Erick Thohir as Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) and Angga Raka Prabowo as Head of the Indonesian Presidential Communication Office (PCO).
