JAKARTA - A teenager was reported to have been swept away by ocean currents while playing Jetsky in the waters of Mutiara Beach, North Jakarta.

Although he was adrift, the victim was rescued by the Thousand Islands Police Polairud Unit personnel who were carrying out routine marine patrols.

Thousand Islands Police Chief AKBP Argadija Putra said the victim was a tourist who was driving a Jetsky with 1 other person.

"At that time, the victim was left behind, lost control after being hit by the waves and fell into the sea, then dragged by the ocean current while trying to swim to the beach," said AKBP Argadija when confirmed, Tuesday, September 16, 2025.

At the same time, he continued, the Thousand Islands Police Polairud Unit personnel who were carrying out the Marine Routine Patrol received information from officers on the coast about the incident.

"Receiving this information, Polairud personnel immediately rescued the victims," he said.

The victim was then successfully evacuated safely to the patrol boat.

"After being evacuated, he was taken to a patrol boat, Alhamdulillah his condition was stable and could still respond when asked by the Sat Polairud personnel on duty," he said.

The rescue action against victims by members of the Polairud Unit of the Thousand Islands Police received appreciation from the public and authorities.

"We hope this action can be an example for the community and raise awareness of the importance of safety when doing activities at sea," he said.
