Seeing Again The Message Of Peace From Eid Al-Fitr And The Ascension Of Jesus Christ

JAKARTA - Eid al-Fitr 1442 Hijri which coincides with the celebration of the Ascension Day of Jesus Christ feels so special. Several peace messages were delivered by leaders in the country, ranging from President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to the Governor of Central Java Ganjar Pranowo.

In an impression uploaded on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube account, Jokowi wished that Eid al-Fitr, which falls on Thursday, May 13, would be a momentum for Indonesia to rise and fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Hopefully on this victory day becomes a momentum for all of us, the Indonesian nation to rise and win against the COVID-19 pandemic", said Jokowi accompanied by the First Lady, Iriana Widodo as quoted from the video.

The former Governor of DKI Jakarta asked the public to be patient and refrain from conducting face-to-face friendships. Because, Eid al-Fitr this time is still the same as the previous year, affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We still have to be patient and restrained because we can not interact directly, face-to-face with family and friends", said Jokowi.

Jokowi understands the heavy public conducting virtual friendships. However, there is no other option because this is to prevent the transmission of COVID-19.

"We must put the health, the safety of all of us first. yes, all of us. So that as soon as possible we can be free from pandemics", said Jokowi.

"From the Bogor Presidential Palace, I wish you a happy Eid al-Fitr 1442 Hijri. We're sorry to be born inwardly", he said.

He also congratulated Christians who also celebrated the Ascension Day of Jesus Christ. "May peace, compassion, and health always accompany the steps of all of us", he said as quoted from his Twitter account @jokowi.

In addition to Jokowi, President Commissioner of PT Pertamina (Persero), Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, or familiarly called Ahok also did congratulate Muslims and Christians who celebrated the two big days.

"Eid al-Fitr this time feels special because it coincides with the day of commemorating the Ascension of Jesus Christ", Ahok wrote on his Instagram account reported by Djawanews, Thursday, May 13.

"Therefore my family and I also wish you a happy Ascension Day of Jesus Christ to those who commemorate it", Ahok continued.

For Ahok, this year does feel special for the harmony of the Indonesian nation. "May God always blesses, maintain the harmony of the Indonesian nation", said the former Governor of DKI Jakarta.

Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo also considers the simultaneous Eid al-Fitr and The Ascension day of Jesus Christ to be special and bring blessings. He thinks God has an amazing plan.

"God has a very extraordinary plan so for Indonesia the context becomes important. First, today Muslims perform Eid prayer and Eid al-Fitr together. Second, for Christians also commemorate the Ascension of Jesus Christ, the same day", said Ganjar at the Office House, Semarang reported from Antara, Thursday, May 13.

According to Ganjar, the commemoration of the two religious holidays on the same day shows that Indonesians can be side by side in worship, as well as implement tolerance and diversity.

"This shows us all the feeling that we must respect each other, respect each other, and this is a blessing for Indonesia", he concluded.
