SERANG South Tangerang Mayor (Tangsel), Banten, Benyamin Davnie ensured that the cooperation in waste management with Pandeglang Regency was canceled following changes to the rules in the latest presidential regulation (perpres).

Benjamin explained that previously the Tangsel City Government had determined that the winner of the waste management auction was in accordance with the old Presidential Decree. However, changes to the rules have forced the cooperation contract to be canceled.

"Yes, that was what I reported earlier. I have based on the old Presidential Decree, it has determined the winner of the auction. But now the Presidential Decree is new, we want to change it," said Benjamin in Serang City, Antara, Friday, September 12.

He added that the decision to cancel the cooperation had also been conveyed by the Regent of Pandeglang. "Earlier, the Regent said, later a letter of cancellation will be sent. What is certain is that it has been canceled," he said.

According to Benjamin, his party is still waiting for confirmation from the central government regarding the new format of arrangements so that waste management measures in South Tangerang continue according to the provisions.

"Regarding the letter of cancellation of cooperation, I am waiting," he said.

Regarding future steps, the South Tangerang City Government will look for alternative solutions for handling waste. Benjamin has also reported the latest developments to the Main Secretary of the Ministry of Environment (KLH) Rosa Vivien Ratnawati.

We will do the waste later. Yesterday, the cooperation that has been running based on the old Presidential Decree has already won the auction. But now there is a new Presidential Decree, I want to change it. That's what I reported to Mrs. Sestama," he explained.

This cancellation of cooperation adds to the list of waste management problems in Banten Province which are still serious issues. Previously, residents had also rejected the plan to dispose of South Tangerang waste to the Bangkonol Final Disposal Site (TPA), Pandeglang, because the TPA system had not met the landfill sanitary standards.
