JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections (Kumham Imipas) Yusril Ihza Mahendra said that around 4,800 people were detained from all over Indonesia after the demonstration which ended in chaos at the end of August 2025 had been released.

"Most of the more than 5,000 detained, 4,800 have been returned to their respective homes," said Yusril at a press conference in Jakarta, Monday, which was confiscated by Antara.

While the remaining 583 people, he said, will be prosecuted, which may be forwarded to the court if sufficient evidence has been collected.

For the 583 people who continue the case, Yusril emphasized that the government will guarantee and protect their rights.

It is said that the government will also ensure that the masses who are still being detained are accompanied by advocates or legal advisors.

"Otherwise, the state is obliged to provide free assistance to them," he said.

Likewise, as long as they are detained, he continued, the government continues to ensure that these people's rights have been fulfilled or not, such as providing food, being treated humanely, and so on.

For this reason, the government emphasizes that these rights will be protected and the government also guarantees that the legal process will run fairly.

"All those detained and then carried out the investigation will be carried out transparently so that the public will see and judge that law enforcement officers (APH), in this case the police, act professionally," said the Coordinating Minister.

In addition, it is said that APH will act in accordance with the legal corridor and guarantee the protection and fulfillment of human rights against them because the government does not want injustice to the community.

However, Yusril emphasized that if the community is proven to have committed a criminal act during the demonstration some time ago, then the state has the right to take legal steps in accordance with the prevailing and transparent kaedah.

"So it is not injustice, but enforcing the law while still paying attention to their rights, their human rights," said Yusril.
