JAKARTA - MPR Deputy Chair Eddy Soeparno confirmed that 17+8 of the people's demands that were widely discussed on social media following the wave of demonstrations in the past week would be heard and followed up.
Eddy said all demands and aspirations of the people were inputs that became evaluation material for improvement, both parliament and political parties.
"We in the National Mandate Party continue to improve listening to input from the public, of course, including the 17+8 agenda," said Eddy, who is also the Deputy Chairperson of PAN, as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, September 4.
According to him, the 17+8 demand is an important foundation for his party to formulate improvements to future cadres. "This includes those of us who are currently getting the mandate from the general chairman as the leader of the MPR RI," he said.
Eddy admitted that his party also received various inputs from various parties, ranging from constituents to religious community organizations that voiced the aspirations of the community.
"PAN Chairman Zulkifli Hasan has also met with Muhammadiyah Chairman Haedar Nashir and received a lot of input which will certainly be carried out as an agenda for improving the party," he said.
Furthermore, as the leader of the MPR RI, Eddy conveyed his commitment to building dialogue and discussions with various parties in a conducive atmosphere.
One way for the MPR to present a dialogue room, he added, is through the MPR Goes to Campus which has been held at 31 universities with the number of participants reaching thousands of students, lecturers, and professors.
"In the MPR Goes to Campus agenda, we open the widest possible discussion space for the community to provide evaluation input and even criticism," he said.
"This proves that the dialogue space is always open and to convey aspirations can be done in any way as long as it is without violence and does not damage public facilities," continued Eddy.
On this Thursday, representatives of the DPR received directly the 17+8 people's demands documents provided by the Collective group 17+8 of Indonesia Berbenah, a network of civil society organizations, communities, new media, and individuals, including influencers.
A number of figures who were present to submit the physical documents included Jovial da Lopez, Jerome Polin, Abigail Limuria, Andovi da Lopez, Fathia Izzati, and Andhyta F. Utami.
The document was received by Deputy Chairman of Commission VI who is also a member of the House of Representatives' Aspiration Body Andre Rosiade at the Pancasila Gate of the Indonesian Parliament Building, Jakarta. Andre promised to immediately submit the people's demands documents to the parliamentary leadership.
