Commission I Of The House Of Representatives Urges Investigation To Complete Shooting Of Indonesian Diplomats In Peru

Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives Sukamta, urged the government to immediately investigate the shooting incident that befell an Indonesian diplomat, Zetro Leonardo Purba in Lima, Peru in a complete and transparent manner.

"On behalf of the PKS faction and Commission I of the DPR RI, we extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and all ranks of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the death of one of the nation's best diplomats. This is our shared sorrow as an Indonesian nation," said Sukamta in Jakarta, Tuesday, September 2.

"We urge the Peruvian government and local authorities to immediately carry out a thorough, transparent, and accountable investigation into this incident," he continued.

Sukamta emphasized that the shooting of diplomats was a very serious act and violated the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which ensures the safety and security of diplomats in the placement country.

"The Peruvian government is obliged to provide protection, guarantee security, and ensure there is no more threat to Indonesian diplomatic staff," said Sukamta.

He also asked the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately increase coordination with Interpol, the United Nations, and Peru security authorities so that this case can be revealed immediately. As well as revealing whether this incident is related to organized crimes, international criminal gangs, or indications of transnational terrorism.

'The security of Indonesian citizens is a top priority. We don't want this incident to happen again, especially if there is a potential involvement of international criminal gangs or corrupt practices at the local level that trigger weak protection," explained Sukamta.

"We must ensure that our diplomatic representatives can carry out their duties safely and with dignity. If there are indications of involvement of criminal gangs or organized groups, the state must be present and firm," he added.

The PKS faction member also emphasized the importance of humanitarian diplomacy and the protection of diplomat rights in the international world.

"PKS encourages the Indonesian government to take strategic diplomatic steps to ensure maximum protection for all Indonesian diplomatic representatives abroad," concluded Sukamta.

As reported, a diplomat from the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) Lima, Peru died after being the victim of a shooting on Monday, September 1, evening local time.

He is Zetro Leonardo Purba (40), the Young Kanselerai Arranger at the Indonesian Embassy in Lima. Meanwhile, the causes and motives regarding the shooting are still being investigated.
