Police Fire Tear Gas Disperse Demo At North Sulawesi DPRD, Provocateur Arrested

MANADO - Kepoolisian dispersed the demonstration (unras) at the North Sulawesi DPRD, because it was considered past the time according to applicable regulations, which was 18.00 WITA.

According to Antara's observation at the North Sulawesi DPRD, Jalan Kairagi Manado, Monday, September 1, the police had fired more than five tear gas shots and water bursts from water cannon cars towards protesters who had not disbanded.

However, the protesters, who were dominated by students and several youth organizations, even attacked the police again with mineral water bottles and other objects.

Previously, the protesters who gathered around the Kairagi Manado Heroes Cemetery (TMP) walked to the North Sulawesi DPRD office yard, and gave a speech conveying demands to the people's representatives.

One of the student orators in reading out his demands, asking for evaluation and cabinet reform of the Prabowo-Gibran government, removing DPR and DPRD allowances and increasing the minimum wage for workers.

The crowd was met directly by the Chairman of the DPRD Fransiskus Silangen with the North Sulawesi Police Chief Inspector General Royke Langie and a number of DPRD members,

"I invite you to express your aspirations, but in a good way," said the chairman of the DPRD.

The demonstrators urged them to all be allowed to enter the courtyard of the DPRD office, but they were rejected by the DPRD. It is feared that there was an incident that previously occurred in other areas, namely the destruction of building facilities.

Both the masses and legislators continued to stay in their respective positions until after 18.00 WITA.

The DPRD leadership had asked the student representatives to have a maximum of 10 dialogues in the office, but the demonstrators refused and wanted everyone to enter.

After 18.30 WITA, the masses were asked to disperse by the police and there was a riot, because there was a throwing of objects at the police.

The police acted decisively by securing the alleged provocateur and releasing tear gas towards the masses.
