Lumajang Unites In Prayer: Solidarity For Affan, Driver Of Ojol Victims Of The Jakarta Tragedy

LUMAJANG - Hundreds of residents of Lumajang Regency, East Java united in a prayer together and tahlil in memory of the late Affan, an online motorcycle taxi driver who died when he was run over by a Brimob tactical vehicle during a demonstration in Jakarta.

The joint prayer ceremony was attended by the Regent of Lumajang Indah Amperawati, Deputy Regent Yudha Adji Kusuma, ranks of Forkopimda, religious leaders, community leaders, and the online motorcycle taxi community at Pendapa Arya Wiraraja Lumajang on Sunday, August 31 evening.

"We were born, raised, and grew up in Lumajang. This tragedy reminds us to respect each other, strengthen solidarity, and maintain unity for the common interest," said Lumajang Regent Indah Amperawati, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, September 1.

The presence of all elements of society and local governments affirms a shared commitment to maintaining solidarity, unity, and social harmony.

"We emphasize that it is important to maintain harmony and avoid division," said the regent who is familiarly called Bunda Indah.

This solemn atmosphere shows that caring for others is a universal value that is upheld by the Indonesian people.

The event closed with the reading of prayers and tahlil together, praying for the late Affan to be accepted by God Almighty. This moment became a symbol that the value of humanity and concern for others is the foundation of unity that must continue to be cared for.

"Affan's departure is a reminder for all levels of society and the government, every citizen has the right to be respected and remembered. Solidarity, concern, and togetherness are not just local values, but part of the image of a humanist and inclusive nation," he said.

Lumajang Regency, he continued, through prayers and tahlil, shows that the tragedy of an individual can be a momentum for national reflection, strengthening social ties, and fostering collective empathy for all Indonesian citizens.

During the joint prayer event, a loudspeaker was also heard regarding President Prabowo Subianto's official statement which emphasized the government's concern for all citizens.

"We are sorry for the death of one of the nation's children. This incident is a momentum for us to strengthen empathy, togetherness, and social responsibility," said Prabowo.
