Prabowo Orders Ministries And Open Institutions To Accept Criticism And Public Input

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto ordered ministries and institutions (k/l) to open their doors and receive envoys from the public who wish to provide input and criticism to improve the quality of public services and improve institutional performance.

President Prabowo emphasized that the government is always open to pure aspirations from the public, and promises to hear, record, and follow up on their aspirations and demands.

The statement was made by the Head of State as a result of his meeting with a number of leaders of political parties and leaders of state institutions at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Sunday.

The President stated that his government respects freedom of expression as regulated in the United Nations International Covinant on Civil and Political Rights, especially in Article 19, then also Law Number 9 of 1998.

The President emphasized that all forms of conveying pure aspirations that come from the community must be respected, as well as the right to peaceful assembly must be respected and protected.

"Submission of aspirations can be carried out peacefully. However, if in its implementation there are activities that are anarchic, destabilizing of the state, damaging or burning public facilities to the presence of casualties, threatening, and looting of houses, and public agencies as well as private houses, this is a violation of the law," Prabowo continued in his statement, Sunday, August 31.

On that occasion, the President emphasized that the state must be present and protect its people.

"The officers in charge must protect the community, protect public facilities built from public money. The officers on duty must also enforce the law if there are violations that threaten the lives of the wider community," said the President.

Therefore, the President also ordered the TNI and Polri to act decisively against those who damaged and looted.

"To the police and the TNI, I have ordered to take firm action against any form of damage to public facilities, looting of individual homes, or public places, or economic centers in accordance with applicable law," said President Prabowo.

After the meeting, which was followed by a statement from the President, President Prabowo continued to lead the cabinet meeting at the Office of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, the Indonesian Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Sunday afternoon until evening.

After the cabinet meeting, Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin held a press conference with the TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, National Police Chief General Pol. Listyo Sigit Prabowo, Army Chief of Staff General Maruli Simanjuntak, Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Muhammad Ali, and Air Force Chief of Staff Marshal TNI M. Tonny Harjono.
