JAKARTA - The South Jakarta Metro Police (Jaksel) have tightened security following demonstrations that took place at several locations in Jakarta on Friday (August 29th). According to ANTARA's monitoring, the gates of the South Jakarta Metro Police Station have been securely in place since 12:05 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB).

According to local residents, the gates are usually open to anyone entering, provided they first obtain permission at the guard post. Currently, around six personnel are on standby behind the gates, monitoring the area to prevent any unrest.

Furthermore, numerous vandalism-related texts have been painted on several walls in front of the South Jakarta Metro Police Station, insulting the police. Meanwhile, a resident named Nur Hakim said that the day before, he heard warnings to stay outside the South Jakarta Metro Police Station during the protests.

"I heard a warning that I shouldn't leave the police station," Hakim said.

He explained that at the time, the gates were completely closed, and officers were asked to remain outside the South Jakarta Metro Police Station while awaiting instructions.

Previously, several student groups, including the All-Indonesian Student Executive Board (BEM) and the University of Indonesia (UI) Student Executive Board (BEM), held a demonstration in front of the Jakarta Metro Police Headquarters on Friday (August 29) afternoon.

The demonstration was held to express disappointment and protest the casualties suffered during yesterday's demonstration in front of the House of Representatives (DPR) Building. Affan Kurniawan (21), an online motorcycle taxi driver, died after being run over by a Brimob tactical vehicle (rantis) amidst clashes between demonstrators and police officers on Jalan Pejompongan, Central Jakarta, Thursday evening (August 28).

The chaos in Pejompongan erupted after various community elements holding a demonstration around the parliamentary complex were repelled by police.

The Head of the National Police's Propam Division, Inspector General Abdul Karim, revealed early Friday morning that seven Brimob officers were inside the vehicle, and they were still being questioned.
