Meeting Affan's Parents, Prabowo Promises To Enforce Justice

JAKARTA - Prabowo Subianto expressed his commitment to upholding justice for the Brimob tactical vehicle incident that ran over an online motorcycle taxi driver named Affan Kurniawan until the victim died during the disbandment of the demonstration on Thursday (28/8) night.

This was conveyed by President Prabowo to Affan's parents when he visited the funeral home on Jalan Tayu, Menteng, Central Jakarta, Friday night, to express his condolences. For about 20 minutes, the President expressed his deep condolences directly to the Affan family.

"I'm sorry for you. I'm fine," Prabowo told the late Affan's father.

"We believe in you," said the father of the deceased as quoted by ANTARA.

Prabowo also expressed his condolences to Affan's mother and said he regretted what had happened.

"I'm sorry, I'm also very sorry," said Prabowo while holding the hand of the deceased's mother.

"I didn't expect you to come here," said the deceased's father then to Prabowo.

With emotion Prabowo then hugged the deceased's mother and the deceased's younger siblings.

The family also conveyed to Prabowo the hope that this case could be thoroughly investigated.

"This is fate, but justice, we are family, please uphold it," said the family of the deceased.

'Definitely. Definitely,' replied Prabowo.

The President arrived at the funeral home on Friday night at around 21.50 WIB, wearing a cream safari suit and a black cap. Also accompanying, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

Without giving information to reporters, the President immediately left the location after conveying his condolences to the families of the victims.

Regarding the legal action against the officers involved, Prabowo had previously raised his voice about this incident through an official statement. He expressed disappointment and surprise at the actions of the officers who were considered excessive.

"Once again, I am shocked and disappointed by the excessive actions of the officers. I have ordered that the incident last night be thoroughly and transparently investigated, and the officers involved must be held accountable," Prabowo said in a video recording uploaded via the Presidential Secretariat YouTube account witnessed in Jakarta, Friday.
