Demo Is Getting Hotter, The American Embassy Gives Emergency Warning To Its Citizens In Jakarta

JAKARTA - The United States (US) Embassy to Indonesia issued a warning for its citizens to avoid a number of demonstration points in Jakarta that have the potential for chaos.

The warning listed on the US Embassy website in Jakarta is entitled "Emergency Information for American Citizens" which was published on Friday, August 29, 2025.

US citizens in Jakarta are asked to stay away from demonstration points in the Mako Brimob Kwitang area, Senen, Central Jakarta; near Polda Metro Jaya, Senayan, South Jakarta; and near the DPR Building, Jalan Jenderal Gatot Subroto, Jakarta.

"Demonstration is likely to continue throughout the day. Protests have the potential to become violent," the warning read.

The US Embassy in Jakarta also asked US citizens to monitor the mass media to obtain the latest information regarding the current situation and conditions.

The following is the call of the US Embassy in Jakarta for its citizens:

1. Avoid the area around the protests and demonstrations.

2. Monitor local media for the latest information.

3. Avoid crowds.

3. Tell your friends and family about your safety.

4. Beware of the surrounding environment.

5. Understand alternative routes to public places and plan to avoid traffic disturbances.

6. Stay alert in locations that are often visited by tourists.

7. Register yourself in the Smart Traveler Registration Program (STEP) to receive information and warnings and make it easier for you to find the person you are looking for in an emergency abroad.
