Yesterday Affan Died, Now Students Break Through Polda Metro Demand Justice

JAKARTA - The demonstration which was held in front of the Polda Metro Jaya, Jakarta, Friday, August 29, was chaotic. The crowd, which was dominated by students, damaged police cars and forcibly opened the gate of the Polda Metro Jaya.

The riots began when about five police cars passed in front of the crowd who were gathering on the edge of Sudirman Street. The crowd then shouted at a group of police officers as "killers" while blocking the front car.

"Killer... killer...," shouted the masses repeatedly.

Shortly thereafter, the crowd began to beat and kick a blue white police car until the glass broke and the car was under construction. The police group finally withdrew and entered the Polda Metro Jaya complex.

At around 15.59 WIB, the mass of action forcibly opened the gate of the Polda Metro Jaya. They managed to enter the building area and some carried out destruction using long bamboo.

This action was triggered by students' anger over the repressive actions of Brimob members who ran over online motorcycle taxi driver (ojol) Affan Kurniawan to death. In this case, seven Brimob members have been arrested. They have the initials Kompol C, Aipda M, Bripka R, Briptu B, Bripda M, Baraka Y, and Baraka J.
