The Number Of Positive Citizens COVID-19 From The Tarawih Banyuwangi Cluster Increases

BANYUWANGI - The number of people who have been declared positive for COVID-19 in Yudomulyo Village, Ringintelu Village, Bangorejo, Banyuwangi, East Java, continues to grow. This cluster has expanded to two other hamlets in Ringintelu Village.

A spokesman for COVID-19 Banyuwangi Task Force Dr. Widji Lestariono said the number of people exposed now amounted to 62 people. Six people died and four were hospitalized.

This cluster is known after a takmir or mosque administrator died in hospital with positive test results of COVID-19, in early May.

"Initially one takmir mosque died in the hospital with positive confirmation of COVID-19", said Dr. Widji Lestariono, Tuesday, May 11.

From here, officers conducted searches to families, neighborhoods and mosque worshippers. About 350 people have tests, including residents who participated in tarawih at the mosque.

"Because it is every night tarawih, so we also tested the congregation", he said.

Widji said that COVID-19 positive residents are the closest people in the first patient environment. Several tarawih prayer congregations were also declared positive.

"There is (tarawih) but not too much, because this has overlapped the transmission", he said.

Until now, the Public Health Office still can not detect where the initial transmission in this village. Because currently the transmission of COVID-19 in Banyuwangi has occurred locally.

Based on data as of May 10, 6,287 people in Banyuwangi were COVID-19 positive. Then 5,484 were declared cured and 167 are still being treated. While the death toll as many as 636.
