Former Employees Become Corruption Suspects Of Bank Papua VAbang South Manokwari Rp996 Million State Loss

WEST PAPUA - The Manokwari District Attorney (Kejari) in West Papua, has detained a suspect in the alleged corruption in the distribution of People's Business Credit (KUR) funds to Bank Papua, Manokwari Selatan Branch, which caused state losses of Rp996.75 million.

Head of the Manokwari Kejari, Teguh Suhendro, said the suspect with the initials SB was suspected of using the identity of another debtor to apply for fictitious credit in the 2022 '2023 period.

"The state loss based on the results of the West Papua BPKP audit reached Rp996,750,000," said Suhendro in Manokwari, Tuesday, quoted by Antara,

He explained that the mode used by the suspect by utilizing the identity of other people for personal gain will take place from November 2022 to November 2023.

The suspect was charged with Article 2 paragraph (1) and Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) of the 1st Criminal Code.

"There was a disbursement by Bank Papua, the South Manokwari Branch with the names of several debtors," said Suhendro.

He explained that the detention of the suspect SB was based on the Detention Order of the Head of the Manokwari District Attorney Number: PRIN-1135/R.2.10/Fd.2/08/2025 which is valid for 20 days, starting from August 25 to September 13, 2025.

The suspect SB was arrested by a joint team in Makassar, South Sulawesi, then temporarily detained at the Makassar Police Detention Center before being flown back by Manokwari to undergo further investigation.

"Now the suspect is being held at the Class IIB Manokwari Prison for investigation purposes," said Suhendro.

Head of the Special Crimes Section of the Manokwari Kejari, Asrul, explained that the case was initially handled by the South Manokwari Police but was stopped, but the Prosecutor's Office was of the view that there were indications of corruption, resulting in an investigation.

The suspect is a former employee of Bank Papua, South Manokwari Branch, and in the future, development will be carried out because the act of manipulating KUR funds submission data will certainly involve more than one person.

"The detention of suspect SB is the entrance for development. It is still possible that there will be additional suspects," said Hasrul.
