Family Tragedy In Maros: Children Who Killed Their Own Relatives Arrested, The Motive Is Heartache

JAKARTA - The Maros Police Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) arrested two suspected perpetrators of the murder of Masdar (41), a resident of Moncongloe Village, Moncongloe District, Maros Regency, South Sulawesi.

"Ada dua pelaku sudah diamankan, masing-masing berinisial S (45) dan MS (20). Mereka adalah bapak dan anak, dan kini sudah ditahan," ujar Kepala Satreskrim Polres Maros Iptu Ridwan saat dikonfirmasi di Maros, Minggu, 24 Agustus.

The murder took place on Saturday, August 23 in the morning at around 03.30 WITA in Biring Jene Hamlet, Moncongloe Village. The victim was abused with a machete and a badik stab to death at the scene.

According to the police, the perpetrator still has a close family relationship with the victim. The incident was triggered by the perpetrator's anger because the victim was said to often scold Rahmatia, the victim's wife, who is also a relative of the perpetrator.

Based on witness Rahmatia's testimony, before the incident there was an argument via cell phone message, even the victim threatened to kill. When he arrived at the location, the victim and the witness were involved in an argument that sparked a commotion until the perpetrator's family came to help.

The victim was then abused and suffered severe injuries, including an open wound to the left head that penetrated the brain and a stab wound to the left waist penetrated the heart.

Hartoyo, the victim's younger brother, received news from the victim's colleague before reporting to the Moncongloe Police. However, when he arrived at the police station, the victim was dead.

A joint team from the Moncongloe and Jatanras Polres Maros conducted a crime scene, then arrested MS at his home. S had fled before finally turning himself in to the Moncongloe Police on Sunday afternoon at around 12.00 WITA after being persuaded by the family.

During the examination, S admitted to slashing the victim with a machete out of anger, while MS admitted to stabbing the victim in the back with a badik because his aunt was abused.

"The perpetrators have admitted their actions. The motive is hurt to the victim. Both of them are now undergoing examination at the Maros Police," said Ridwan.

The police confiscated a machete, a badik, the suspect's clothes, and two cellphones belonging to the victim and his wife. The two suspects were charged with Article 338 of the Criminal Code with a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.
