DPR Agrees Indonesia To Develop AI Technology As A Geopolitical Strategy

JAKARTA - Member of Commission I DPR RI Junico Siahaan, agreed with the statement of First Admiral TNI Arif Badrudin who alluded to the importance of geopolitical strategies and technological development such as artificial intelligence (AI). According to him, this young thinker's perspective is very much needed to strengthen Indonesia's position in the midst of global dynamics that continues to change.

Junico emphasized that Indonesia needs future leaders who are not only able to manage domestic affairs, but also have a big vision to become peace actors in the region and international levels.

"Our main point is to encourage the birth of a leader with a big vision who wants to make Indonesia a world peace actor. For that, diplomacy must be strengthened," Nico told reporters, Friday, August 22.

"We need to prepare capable young diplomats, who not only understand theory, but also actively engage directly in global peace activities," he continued.

According to Nico, Indonesia has a long history of non-block diplomacy and peace-based international cooperation. He considered, this history must continue to be revived and developed through leadership regeneration.

"We can no longer ignore the importance of regeneration in diplomacy," said Nico.

The member of the commission in the DPR in charge of foreign and defense affairs also sees platforms such as P3N and P4N as strategic spaces to strengthen the capacity of national leadership candidates in understanding foreign politics. In addition, Nico said, it is also related to strategic technology, as well as modern geopolitics.

"We can no longer ignore the importance of regeneration in diplomacy. The world in the future requires young actors from Indonesia who can speak equivalently on the international stage, both in issues of peace, climate, digital security, and technology," he said.

With global dynamics increasingly complex and full of challenges, Nico emphasized the importance of Indonesia taking on a bigger role.

"Commission I of the DPR RI is committed to continuing to encourage inclusive, adaptive, and innovation-based foreign policies to maintain sovereignty while strengthening Indonesia's contribution in creating world peace," Nico concluded.

For information, First Admiral Arif Badrudin, who is a high-ranking TNI officer who graduated from S3, spoke about Indonesia's geopolitical strategy at the XXV National Leadership Education Program (P3N) and the 2025 LXVIII National Leadership Eradication Program (P4N), some time ago.

Arif opened his question by referring to the geopolitical studies he studied and proposing Indonesia could return to lead on the increasingly polarized world stage. According to Arif, Indonesia can take advantage of the presence of Danantara.

Specifically, Arif, who is a doctoral graduate in the AI sector, suggested that 20 percent of investment from Danantara's endowment fund institutions be allocated to non-block countries in the form of AI technology.

Arif also suggested that the younger generation of Indonesia be introduced by AI and Fintech. Thus, he hopes that young people can open start-up industries in non-block countries.
