JAKARTA - The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, reiterated that there was no increase in salaries for members of the House of Representatives, while the house of office of Rp. 50 million per member was due to the house of office previously provided in Kalibata and Ulujami, South Jakarta, which was now abolished.

"What I can say as the leader of the DPR is that there is currently no salary increase. What has changed is that now all members of the DPR do not receive a house of office in Kalibata," said Puan at the DPR building, Thursday, August 21.

Puan explained that the housing allowance was given as a form of compensation to members of the DPR. Because, he said, now all the house positions of members have been handed back to the state.

"And there is indeed compensation related to the house of office to members of the DPR, because the DPR members also come from which areas. That's all there are other changes, there are no changes, that's all," explained Puan.

Regarding the house allowance of Rp. 50 million which was considered too large by some, Puan stated that the amount had gone through a thorough study process according to the conditions or prices of houses in Jakarta.

"Because the office is in Jakarta, whatever we are, the leadership of the DPR will pay attention to the aspirations and what the community has said. Please always monitor our performance in the DPR," said Puan.

Puan emphasized that the DPR is open to evaluation if things are found that are not right by the community. "If later there are things that are considered still not perfect, they are still too much, of course we will evaluate them," said Puan.

"However, this has become one thing that we have studied well and is a matter that has been studied for 580 members of the DPR who come from 38 provinces. What are the aspirations and inputs from the community will be very much paid attention to," he concluded.
