Kelapa Gading Residents Found Dead In Ciliwung River

JAKARTA - A body was found floating in the Ciliwung River, Kebon Manggis Village, Matraman, East Jakarta.

The discovery of the corpse shocked residents of RT 01/04, Kebon Manggis Village. The victim's body was then evacuated by firefighters and taken to the Central Jakarta RSCM.

The victim is known to have the initials MDR (46), a resident of West Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta.

Matraman Police Chief Kompol Suripno said the body of the man found in the Ciliwung River began when the victim fell into the river and could not swim.

This is reinforced based on investigations and family statements that show that the victim cannot swim.

It is suspected that the victim entered the river and was unable to save himself so that a lot of water entered his body.

"Because I couldn't swim, most of the water came in," said Kompol Suripno when confirmed, Wednesday, August 20, 2025.

Meanwhile, continued the police chief, the family also did not know the purpose or activity of the victim before entering the river.

However, based on a temporary examination, the victim was estimated to have died more than a day before being found.

"The family also doesn't know what the victim wants, they just explained that the victim couldn't swim," he said.

From this statement, the police confirmed that there were no signs of violence on the victim's body.
