JAKARTA - The Fire and Rescue Service (DPKP) of South Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Regency, South Sumatra recorded five merchant stalls at Saka Selabung Market on fire on Tuesday, August 12, at 23.30 WIB.

"Based on the results of the latest data collection, there were five stalls of traders who were burned down," said Acting Head of the South OKU DPKP Wily Agus in Muaradua, Wednesday, as reported by Antara.

He said the burning merchant stall belonged to Nasir (50), clothing trader, Edi Mandra (50), candiary trader, Yunes (40), fish trader, Nur Andap (50), fried food trader, and Somad (50), spice trader.

The total loss due to the incident could not be estimated, but the fire left charred debris and deep sorrow for traders who lost their livelihoods.

He revealed that the fire broke out when the market was quiet because all stalls and kiosks were left by traders to return to their respective homes. In that incident there were no casualties.

The fire report was first received by Team II of the South OKU Fire and Rescue (Damkar) at 23.30 WIB which was then followed up by immediately jumping into the location to extinguish the fire.

In extinguishing the fire, his party deployed two fire brigade fleets from the Muaradua Command Post and Buay Sandang Aji Command Post with dozens of personnel deployed.

"The fire was successfully extinguished about an hour after the incident occurred. It is suspected that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit from one of the merchant's stalls," he said.

Currently, South OKU DPKP personnel are still at the fire site to cool down to ensure the hotspots do not reappear.
