East Pangandaran Beach Threatened By KJA, Residents Ready To 'Geruduk' Bandung

PANGANDARAN - Various community groups in Pangandaran Regency held an action and declaration against the existence of floating net cages (KJA) in the East Coast area of Pangandaran, West Java. They assess that KJA is disturbing the community's economy, especially the tourism sector.

"We expressly reject the existence of floating net cages on the East Coast of Pangandaran," said Action Coordinator Iwan Sofa during a declaration at the Susi Air Beach Strip, Pangandaran, Antara, Wednesday, August 13.

The action was attended by the tourism business community and attended by the Regent of Pangandaran Citra Pitriyami, former Pangandaran Regent Jeje Wiradinata, and former Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Susi Pudjiastuti.

The masses read out KJA's declaration of refusal and urged the government to revoke the existing permits.

"The existence of KJA will disrupt tourism activities in Pangandaran because this location is the heart of the economy's pulse," said Iwan.

He added that Pangandaran is a tourist destination according to the vision and mission of the local government for the welfare of the community.

Based on national regulations and Provincial Marine Spatial Planning Regulations, the East Coast is also designated as a conservation area that must be maintained for the stability of the environment and marine ecosystem.

"The existence of KJA contradicts the vision and mission and macro policies of the local government which make Pangandaran a tourist destination," said Iwan.

Former Pangandaran Regent Jeje Wiradinata expressed his support for this action. During his two terms in office, he always paid attention to the arrangement of tourist areas, including beach destinations in Pangandaran.

Jeje menegaskan masyarakat siap menggelar aksi damai di Bandung untuk menyampaikan aspirasi terkait penolakan KJA.

“Kita jalan ke Bandung, kita salurkan aspirasi,” ujarnya.

Jeje emphasized that the public is ready to hold a peaceful demonstration in Bandung to express their aspirations regarding the refusal of KJA.

"We go to Bandung, we distribute aspirations," he said.
