JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government together with the Ministry of Public Works (PU) signed a memorandum of agreement on the synergy of waste management as a strategic step to increase the effectiveness of urban waste management comprehensively, measurably, and sustainably.
Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency, Asep Kuswanto, said that this collaboration will be the key in responding to the challenges of waste management in Jakarta which reaches more than 7,700 tons per day.
"This synergy includes the preparation of the master plan and technical studies of waste management, technical development, and improvement of waste management supporting infrastructure, including strengthening facilities at the Bantargebang TPST," Asep said in Jakarta, Wednesday, August 6.
Asep emphasized that the DKI Provincial Government is also committed to improving the operation and maintenance of all existing waste management facilities, as well as strengthening waste management measures from upstream to downstream, starting from strengthening waste banks and the Jakarta Recycle Center, developing RDF Plant facilities, to optimizing PLTSa at TPST Bantargebang.
"Through this collaboration, the DKI Provincial Government and the Ministry of Public Works are optimistic that waste management in Jakarta can be significantly improved to support the realization of Jakarta as a sustainable global city," said Asep.
Continuing, the Director General of Human Settlements at the Ministry of Public Works, Dewi Chomistriana, emphasized that the central government supports various waste management efforts in Jakarta by the DKI Provincial Government.
The Ministry of Public Works, he continued, will also provide technical guidance starting from the preparation of the master plan, study and technical planning, technical guidance, to the construction of lindi management facilities, landfill gas, and landfill strengthening at TPST Bantargebang.
