JAKARTA - The Ukrainian drone strike damaged power lines and sparked a fire at a train station building in the southern region of Russia's Volgograd last night, the regional government said on Monday.

An unexploded drone crashed on the railroad tracks near Archeda train station, the regional administration said on the telegram messaging application, citing Volgograd Regional Governor Andrei Bocharov.

Russia's Ministry of Defense said its units destroyed a total of 61 Ukrainian drones overnight, including six over the Volgograd region. The ministry reported that only the number of drones was destroyed, not how many Ukraine were launched.

Administration in the region quoted Bocharov as saying the attack was "large" and targeted transport energy and infrastructure.

Reuters was unable to verify reports independently. There was no immediate comment from Ukraine, which often carried out attacks on infrastructure within Russia that Kyiv deems key to Moscow's war efforts, including in the Volgograd region located not far from the border with Ukraine.

Russia's State News Agency TASS reported a number of regional train trips were delayed in the area.

Meanwhile, flights at the regional airport in Volgograd City, which is the wider administration center of the Volgograd region, were suspended for several hours before proceeding at around 00:00 GMT, Russia's civil aviation authority Rosaviatsia said of telegram.
