Warga Binaan Rutan Batam Terima Amnesti Presiden

JAKARTA - The Class IIA Batam State Detention Center (Rutan), Riau Islands, released a resident after receiving an amnesty given by the President of the Republic of Indonesia. This amnesty is a form of forgiveness from the state, which at the same time removes all legal consequences for these prisoners.

The head of the Class IIA Batam Detention Center, Fajar Teguh Wibowo, said that out of a total of 1,178 prisoners throughout Indonesia who received amnesty based on the Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia Number 17 of 2025, one of them came from the Batam Detention Center.

"This amnesty is a constitutional right of citizens given by the President, and is part of a legal legal process," Fajar said as quoted by ANTARA.

The inmates who received the amnesty were M. Isbandi, a narcotics convict who was previously sentenced to 3 years and 6 months. Until now, Isbandi has served two years in prison before finally being declared free because of the amnesty.

Fajar explained that granting amnesty is a form of full forgiveness from the state, which not only stops the criminal period, but also removes all legal consequences from the verdicts that have been handed down. This step, according to him, is also in line with the government's efforts to encourage social reintegration and reduce the density of residents in prisons and detention centers.

"This amnesty is expected to be an opportunity for the inmates to improve themselves and return to a positive role in society," said Fajar.

He added that the granting of amnesty was carried out through strict administrative and legal stages, following the rules in the applicable laws.

"Hopefully this will be a new beginning for brother Isbandi, and become an inspiration for other inmates to continue to improve and become a better person," Fajar concluded.
