JAKARTA - The United States (US) and Australia military held their first joint exercise entitled 'Talisman Sabre' which will be held 500 kilometers across the northern coast of a remote island in Papua New Guinea on Sunday.
This military exercise mission survives in seven regions of Papua New Guinea. Joint forces will move through the terrain from Wewak to Lae, which is the location of the fierce fighting between Japan and the US in World War II.
"This activity at PNG tests the combined capabilities of all sea, land, air, cyber, and space operations," a spokesman for the US Embassy said in a statement, Friday, August 1, quoted from AFP.
Access to Lae's main port for military exercises initiated by the US-Australia in Papua New Guinea is based on the 2023 defense agreement with Papua New Guinea, which was signed after China reached a security pact with neighboring Solomon Islands.
A spokesman for the US embassy said the Papua New Guinea defense agreement into military exercises would "improve security and prosperity for the two countries."
The closing ceremony of Talisman Sabre is scheduled for Lae City, Papua New Guinea, on Monday 4 July. This exercise involved 40,000 troops from 19 countries.
