What Is PWI LS Who Considers FPI A Threat?

YOGYAKARTA The public questioned what PWI LS was because of the clashes that occurred in Pemalang, Central Java. The clash occurred between PWI LS and the Islamic Brotherhood Front (FPI). This article will explain the PWI LS organization which is currently in the spotlight.

PWI LS is short for the Struggle of Walisongo Indonesia Laskar Sabilllah. This mass organization claims that they were born from the roots of the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) tradition. The formation of PWI LS is said to be a form of their response to the existence of Habib of Arab descent, especially from Ba'Alwi.

Not much information explained PWI. However, several sources said that the mass organization declared itself on October 6, 2023 in Cilacap.

The formation of the mass organization was based on the desire to maintain the teachings of Islam spread by Walisongo. They also claim that PWI is tasked with protecting the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia from "transnational radical groups" including the "false doktrine" about nasab spread in the community.

The trigger for the wrong doctrine about the nasab that PWI believes is the existence of a controversial thesis belonging to KH Imaduddin Utsman al-Bantani. The results of the thesis study stated that the nasab Ba'Alawi was said to have been cut off with the Prophet Muhammad.

PWI also urges scientific and historical evidence from claims by Ba'Alawi. They reject the nasab as proven based on hereditary recognition (syuhrah wal istifadhah). They also think that Ba'Alawi's nasab narrative with the Prophet Muhammad SAW will form a caste in Islamic socialism and it is feared that it will erode Walisongo's teachings.

The existence of this assumption is considered to be a trigger for the assumption that a figure like Habib Rizieq Shihab is an ideological threat.

The clash between the PWI group LS and FPI is not the first time. Most recently, the clash between the mass organizations took place in Pemalang, Central Java on Wednesday, July 23, 2025.

Regarding the incident, the Pemalang Police Chief, AKBP Eko Sunaryo explained that the clash occurred during a religious event titled Tabigh Akbar which was attended by FPI officials. The event was held from 15.00 WIB to Thursday at 03.45 WIB.

As an anticipatory measure, on the same day before the recitation began, a Condition Creation Coordination Meeting was held which was attended by law enforcement officers and representatives of the FPI and PWI-LS mass organizations. From the meeting, it was agreed that the commitment to keep the event safe and conducive. All parties also agreed to maintain mutual security and unity.

Unfortunately, clashes remain unavoidable. Clashes occurred in the middle of the event, namely Wednesday at 23.00 to 23.30 WIB. FPI and PWI LS attacked each other in the main stage area. As a result, 15 people were injured.
