Application Accepted, Tom Lembong Has 2 Weeks Leave Memory Appeal

JAKARTA - The Corruption Court (Tipikor) at the Central Jakarta District Court (PN) has received an appeal from former Trade Minister Thomas Trikasih Lembong alias Tom Lembong.

The appeal relates to the 4.5-year prison sentence in the alleged corruption case of sugar imports at the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag).

"The Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court has recorded an appeal for case number 34/Pid.Sus-TPK/2025/PN.Jkt.Pst on behalf of the defendant Thomas Trikasih Lembong," said Central Jakarta District Court spokesman Andi Saputra in his statement, Wednesday, July 23.

Tom Lembong's legal adviser, Rifkho Achmad Bawazir, filed the appeal on Tuesday, July 22.

With the official receipt of the appeal, the Tom Lembong camp must file an appeal memory which will later be submitted to the Jakarta High Court for examination and trial by the appeals panel.

"Comparisons will be given a maximum of 14 days, starting from July 25, 2025, to file an appeal memorandum. After that, the file will be sent to the Jakarta High Court," said Andi.

Tom Lembong was found guilty in a corruption case of sugar importation for the 2015-2016 period. Thus, the panel of judges sentenced him to 4.5 years in prison

In addition to imprisonment, the panel of judges also imposed a fine on Tom Lembong. The value reaches Rp. 750 million.

The criminal fine was given on the condition that if it was not paid, it would be replaced with imprisonment for six months.

"Sentenced the defendant Thomas Trikasih Lembong to imprisonment for 4 years and 6 months," said judge Dannie Arsan.

In the verdict, Tom Lembong's actions were deemed to have violated Article 2 paragraph (1) or Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption as amended and supplemented by Law Number 20 of 2001 in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) 1st of the Criminal Code.
