JAKARTA - Spokesperson for handling COVID-19 Achmad Yurianto (Yuri) said dozens of laboratories spread across Indonesia continue to actively examine samples of patients suspected of having contracted the SARS-CoV-2 or COVID-19 virus.

Based on data as of April 20, more than 20 thousand samples have been received and are currently in the process of being examined by the medical team. However, the samples that were inspected from the start were twice as many as the newly received specimens

"The specimens we have examined so far are 49,767 specimens. They come from 43,749 people," said Yuri at Graha BNPB, Jakarta, Monday, April 20.

Of the tens of thousands of specimens that have been examined, 6,760 people have tested positive for COVID-19 and 36,989 specimens tested negative. Meanwhile, based on a report from the Health Office (Dinkes) in the district / city, it was recorded that people under surveillance (ODP) reached 181,770 people.

Meanwhile, for Patients Under Supervision (PDP), it reached 16,343 people. Later, the specimen from the PDP will be examined in the laboratory by performing a realtime PCR examination.

Of the 6,760 people who tested positive, this is a provisional number from the addition of 185 new cases from the previous figure. Then, there were also an additional number of cured cases which were recorded as many as 61 people.

"There were 6,760 confirmed COVID-19 people. Healed 747 people. Of course the criteria for recovery are based on, one, a clinical condition that has improved and does not need hospital services anymore. Then second, serial negative tests twice in a row," said Yuri.

Although the number of positive cases is still higher than the recovered cases, said Yuri, based on the data, the highest number of recovered patients came from DKI Jakarta when compared to 33 other affected provinces.

"In DKI Jakarta, 230 cases recovered, East Java 98 people, South Sulawesi 63 people, West Java 56 people, and Central Java 51 people," he said.

Finally, there were only 8 additional people in the case of death. So that the total number of cases died from positive cases of COVID-19 amounted to 590 patients or people
