PEKANBARU - Minister of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI), Abdul Kadir Karding, encourages the younger generation to dare to take job opportunities abroad.

According to him, being a migrant worker is not only a matter of finding a large income, but also a matter of enriching the life experience.

Working abroad is like a lecture while being paid. The knowledge increases, new experiences and friends are obtained, and of course the salary is much greater than domestically," said Karding when giving a public lecture at the Islamic University of Riau (UIR), Wednesday, July 16.

He gave an example of a salary for nurses in Japan that can reach Rp. 25 million per month, while in Germany it can even reach Rp. 30'50 million. Similar opportunities, he said, are also open in the industrial, fisheries, and hospitality sectors.

Although promising, Minister Karding reminded the importance of maintaining attitude and ethics while working in a destination country. "Where the earth is stepped on, there the sky is upheld. We must be able to adapt, respect local culture, obey the rules, and bring the good name of Indonesia," he said.

He also highlighted the importance of mastering foreign languages practically, not just memorizing.

"Language is the main key. If you don't master it, it can lead to misunderstandings with superiors and co-workers," he explained.

In addition to technical and language skills, Minister Karding reminded the importance of financial planning. He considered that many migrant workers failed to enjoy the results of their hard work due to the drastic changing lifestyle of their families.

"The rich people are not the ones who have a big salary, but those who can manage their finances wisely. Do not let the hard work of the years run out," he said.

On the same occasion, the Ministry of P2MI also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Riau Islamic University. The cooperation was signed directly by Minister Karding and UIR Chancellor, Admiral.

This memorandum of understanding includes strengthening education, training, and assistance for prospective migrant workers. The hope is that the younger generation of Indonesia can appear as a professional and dignified workforce in the international arena.
