The Ministry of Religion (Kemenag) encourages the certification of Al Quran teachers through the Tilawati Professional Certification Institute (LSP) as a step to improve the quality and professionalism of Al Quran teachers in Indonesia.
"We want Al-Quran teachers to be treated properly as professions. There are pathways of recognition of competence, level of training, and a sustainable coaching system. It can no longer be left merely as a voluntary role without strengthening capacity," said Director of Islamic Religious Information at the Ministry of Religion Ahmad Zayadi in Istiqlal, Jakarta, Saturday 12 July 2025, as reported by ANTARA.
Ahmad Zayadi said the coaching of the Quran must move towards a structured, standardized, and social impact system.
The movement to read the Koran does not stop on the tilawah podium, but must be continued in an effort to understand, explore the content of the content, to increase religious literacy that educates the public.
According to him, LSP Tilawati was present as a tangible manifestation of the mission. Its presence is an important instrument to strengthen the Al Quran development ecosystem in the country, ensure the standards of teaching competence and open up official certification opportunities for Al Quran teachers.
"Tilawah must be a national movement: read correctly, understand clearly, live with awareness, and apply it seriously," he said.
With the presence of LSP Tilawati, he said, the teaching process of the Quran will be more directed, measurable, and professional. Quran teachers are not enough just to read, but also need to understand the ethical, social, and spiritual principles of the contents of the Koran they teach.
"This is not just technical standardization, but part of strengthening value. For example, when reading a verse about trust, teachers must be able to instill the importance of integrity," he said.
Zayadi added that Quran teacher certification through LSP Tilawati is voluntary and competency-based, not administrative or political. The Ministry of Religion encourages Islamic education institutions, Islamic boarding schools, and TPQ to make this LSP a partner for improving quality.
LSP Tilawati was initiated by the Nurul Falah Islamic Boarding School, the development center of the Tilawati method, which has partnered with the Ministry of Religion for a long time in Al-Quran education.
The launch of this LSP is considered to be part of the Ministry of Religion's vision to carry out institutional transformation in the management of religious education, including digitalization programs, tiered training, and more transparent and accountable governance.
"This certification is not a form of control over da'wah, but the way we respect Quran teachers as the main actors of the nation's moral development," said Zayadi.
