JAKARTA - Member of Commission VI DPR RI, Rivqy Abdul Halim highlighted the polemic over the closure of all branches of the fitness center, Gold's Gym Indonesia, which cost more than 1,000 members. Rivqy said the DPR would facilitate the problem because it involves consumer protection.

Rivqy urged the management of Gold's Gym to communicate transparently to its members, staff and personal trainers (PT) who felt aggrieved by the unilateral closure of Gold's Gym.

The reason is, the members who complained about the closure of the well-known gym have not received an adequate explanation from the management since they were officially closed at the end of last June. Even though they have already paid for membership.

"Representatives of the Gold's Gym management must appear to the public to provide official information to consumers, staff and PT who feel disadvantaged. The silence of Gold's Gym management only increases the escalation of anger from those who are disappointed with the unilateral closure of Gold's Gym," said Rivqy, Friday, July 11.

Rivqy said that Commission VI of the DPR in charge of business competition and trade areas plans to summon the management of Gold's Gym and the disadvantaged parties to sit down together to solve the existing problems.

"Starting with communication that is transparent and brokered by commission VI in collaboration with the National Consumer Protection Agency or BPKN, of course we hope that the Gold's Gym problem can be resolved wisely. This means that we can make fair decisions for all parties," explained Rivqy.

The man who is familiarly called Gus Rivqy also stated that the DPR would support the settlement of this case through legal channels, either civil or even criminal if the mediation steps in Commission VI of the DPR were deadlocked. He emphasized that the Gold's Gym case must be resolved as a form of legal certainty for all parties.

"There are already regulations, namely the Consumer Law and the Criminal Code if they want to be brought to the realm of law. The Gold's Gym issue must be resolved, as a form of responsibility and presence of the state against alleged violations of consumer rights," said the legislator from the East Java District IV.

Seeing the case of the Gold's Gym, Gus Rivqy also reminded other gym venues or companies to practice transparent and accountable management. If not, according to him, the gym where the person concerned will be abandoned will even be prosecuted by consumers.

"If that's the case, people who want to have a healthy lifestyle through the gym will look for other alternatives. Of course this will cause even greater potential losses for gym entrepreneurs," concluded Rivqy.

It is known, the Gold's Gym fitness center suddenly closed all of its outlets, causing losses to a thousand members without compensation. Not only consumers, but employees and personal trainers also became victims.

Before officially closing on June 30, 2025, Gold's Gym management had stated that only a few branches would be closed, and would shift operations to five other locations. But in fact, some branches were closed early, even sealed by building owners amid promotions and sales of ongoing membership packages.

The Gold's Gym Indonesia (FKGGI) Victim Forum recorded a total temporary collective loss of Rp 9.2 billion from 1,236 members. While the number of victims continues to grow, there has been no official explanation from the management of Gold's Gym Indonesia.

To date, 1,160 people have been recorded, consisting of members, staff, and personal trainers who are members of FKGGI. Many of the employees also admit that they have not received the latest salaries, commissions, and employment rights such as BPJS Ketenagakerjaan
