JAKARTA - A male patient who tried to escape from the ICU room of the Ade M Djoen Sintang Hospital, West Kalimantan, finally died, Wednesday, May 5 in the morning after being treated for nine days due to being exposed to COVID-19.

Director of Ade M Djoen Sintang Regional Hospital, Dr. Rosa Trifina, said the patient who died tried to escape from Tuesday, May 4 at 20.30 WIB by crashing into the ICU room door, as a result the patient's legs and body were injured and bleeding a lot.

"The patient was then treated again by the medical team, and six hours later, the patient died," said Rosa.

He said that before trying to run away, the patient had been experiencing a deterioration in his health condition since the afternoon.

"The patient experiences rowdy, restlessness, fever and shortness of breath," he explained.

Rosa couldn't explain why the patient tried to run away. "We do not ask the patient what is the motivation for wanting to run away. This patient has indeed received close observation by the medical team because his condition continues to deteriorate," said Rosa.

Meanwhile, the Regent of Sintang, Jarot Winarno, through his Instagram account, said that there were 1,892 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 46 cases of death in Sintang District. The peak of the 3rd wave of increasing cases of the spread of COVID-19 occurred in April 2021 with 154 cases per week.
