Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono will explore the existence of small islands in the Bali and West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) regions suspected of being controlled by foreign nationals or foreigners.

"Against the small islands in the two areas, of course we will explore them," Trenggono said at a Working Meeting with Commission IV of the DPR, Monday, July 7.

Actually, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) is the use of property development on a small island if it has been done but then it violates, meaning that violating the island space is a conservation space so there should not be a building, then the KKP asks it to be sealed and then the building asks to be demolished.

"But if the small island is allowed (to be utilized) then if it does not have a permit (use), then we will seal it and we ask them to carry out the correct legalization process as well as we carry out socialization," said Trenggono.

For information, the Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning (ATR)/Head of the National Land Agency (BPN) Nusron Wahid revealed that there are islands in the NTB and Bali regions allegedly controlled by foreigners.

He admitted that he would check the legal standing for ownership of the islands.

"The sale of small islands to foreign parties or foreigners. There were several incidents, I don't know what the process was, suddenly the point is whether the legal standing is like what we will check, suddenly the land or the island is controlled by several foreigners. It is in Bali and in NTB," said Nusron.

He said on the island a house and resort were built on behalf of foreign nationals. However, he did not explain in detail the islands in question.

"Is it legal that they still have Indonesian citizens, but they signed a contract with the person concerned or something, we don't know yet. But in plain view, the island was built a house, a resort was built in foreign names," he said.

Nusron Wahid emphasized that small islands in Indonesia cannot be sold or wholly owned by individuals, including by foreigners.

He explained that there are two regulations governing the ownership of small islands in Indonesia.

The first is the Minister of ATR/BPN Regulation Number 17 of 2005 Article 2 Paragraph 2, which states that the control of small islands must not be controlled or wholly owned by individuals or legal entities.

The second regulation, he said, is contained in the Regulation of the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (Permen KKP) Number 10 of 2024 concerning the Utilization of Small Islands and Around Waters.
