JAKARTA - At least one person was killed and four others injured in an Israeli drone strike that hit a car in southern Beirut, Lebanon, Thursday, July 3 at 5 pm local time.
The drone fired two guided missiles into a car on Jalan Raya Khalde, which is generally traversed by vehicles.
Israeli IDF army spokesman Avichay Adraee confirmed the attack on his X social media account Thursday, July 3 evening WIB.
"The Israeli army is targeting a terrorist in Lebanon who is involved in arms smuggling and launching a terrorist plot against Israeli citizens and military forces on behalf of the Iranian Quds Forces," Adraee wrote, quoted by Arab News.
The attack comes three days before the US envoy Thomas Barrack is scheduled to visit Beirut.
Barrack will discuss and ask Lebanon's response to the US proposal for a ceasefire in the country to occur under the pretext of a gun control restriction.
Israel's efforts also took place a day after Hezbollah rejected a US request to strip off weapons.
On Wednesday July 2, Hezbollah's Secretary-General, Naim Qassem, said that his group firmly rejected any attempt to lay off arms. "We do not want to be humiliated, or hand over our land or weapons to Israeli enemies," he said.
"The issue of weapons is "an internal Lebanese matter that must be handled internally, without supervision or external interference," he added.
"The party will not comply with any external threats or pressures. No one has decided for us or imposed a choice on us that we do not accept. Our weapons are our legitimate and legitimate right to deal with Israeli occupation," Naim continued.
